Southampton head coach Simon Parker has been awarded the WSL2 Manager of the Month award for October.
Sitting third in the table, Southampton currently occupy the play-off position, behind only Charlton and Birmingham City.
After Simon Parker’s side defeated Portsmouth 5-2 away from home in the South Coast derby, the League Managers Association awarded him the Performance of the Week.
Before the internal break, the Saints secured a vital 2-1 win away from home against promotion chasers Birmingham City. Goals from Atlanta Primus and Chloe Peplow ensured Parker’s side a strong position amidst promotion hopes.
Former Arsenal star Marieanne Spacey-Cale presented Parker with his trophy. The director of women’s football at Southampton credited both Parker and the team’s performances.
“Simon’s come in and made changes that suit how he wants to coach. And you can see not just through the results but also the performances and the way the girls are so behind him, that it’s working well.
“The hard work he puts in, the methodology and commitment he’s got to try and help these players get better, is second to none, so this award is well deserved.”
Parker added, “Personally, it’s always nice to be acknowledged when the team is doing well, so I’m really happy.
“Hopefully we can win a lot more, and that means the team is doing well, so again it’s a team award, not really a ‘me’ award.”
Following the international break, Southampton will host Nottingham Forest before a vital clash against Charlton. The Saints travel to The Valley hoping to put pressure on the league leaders. All WSL2 matches will be available to watch via the WSL2 YouTube Channel.
