Wycombe Wanderers should look to replace Richard Kone by signing Samson Tovide from Colchester United.
Wycombe Wanderers should try and get one over on Matt Bloomfield and Luton Town this summer by signing Samson Tovide to replace Richard Kone.
The news all Wanderers supporters were dreading all summer came on Wednesday, as star striker Kone finalised a move to Queens Park Rangers, ending weeks of speculation about where he would be heading.
The Chairboys have received a club-record fee for the Ivorian, previously smashing the £1m they pocketed for Anis Mehmeti in 2023, with a reported fee of £2.75m up front, including £2.25m in add-ons and a 22.5% sell-on clause proving satisfactory to get the deal done.
Wycombe must now seek a replacement for Kone, which is much easier said than done. However, the ideal candidate may just be Tovide, who almost moved to Bloomfield's Luton earlier in the transfer window.
With that in mind, the Blues should look to dish out some revenge on their former boss by signing the Colchester United striker, and capitialising on the Bedfordshire side's failure to complete a deal for him.

Seeing Kone move on is a bittersweet feeling for Wycombe fans, as the feeling of immense pride coupled with the disappointment of losing a hugely popular player is the resounding mood around Adams Park currently.
It was bound to happen this summer, as multiple contract offers had been made to the Ivorian, but he wanted to test himself at a higher level. Fortunately, Wanderers' patience earned them a strong deal which sets them up nicely in the future and the present.
They could've cashed in when Luton came calling in January, but would've only pocketed a maximum of £7m for the striker, whereas now they could potentially pocket double that amount, thanks to add-ons and a hefty sell-on clause.
Whilst the initial fee is lower than what was proposed in January, it still gives Mike Dodds' side plenty of money to play with in the transfer market to source an adequate replacement for the 22-year-old.
Currently, Wycombe have Bradley Fink and Dan Udoh on the books as senior strikers, but the former has struggled with injuries throughout his career, and the latter is truthfully better suited to playing out wide, rather than down the middle.
Whilst Fink and Udoh are both excellent players, not having a third striker came back to haunt the Chairboys at the back end of last season when injuries struck, and they won't want to make the same mistake again.
The Hatters have had an excellent transfer window, bringing some very strong signings to Kenilworth Road, adding to an already exceptional squad, lead by a hugely talented manager at this level.
However, one that got away from Luton was the signing of Tovide from Colchester. The League Two side accepted a bid from Bloomfield's side, but failure to agree on the structure of the deal saw the 21-year-old return to the Essex side.
The Hackney-born forward has been solid for a number of years in League Two, with plenty of senior experience under his belt at such a young age, which is a huge bonus, meaning Wanderers aren't taking a huge risk on an unproven player.
His age and playing style as a box-crashing forward makes Tovide a great option for Dodds' side, who could develop him into a very similar player to the Ivorian. He likely wouldn't be expecting to start week-in-week-out as well, which wouldn't take minutes away from Fink if he arrived.
Tovide also has a high ceiling, so a potential sale in the future could earn the Chairboys another massive fee, and he fits in with their business model of signing some of the best players in League Two this window, such as Junior Quitirna, Connor Taylor, and George Abbott.
With that in mind, Wycombe should now pounce to try and dish out some revenge on their former manager for leaving them mid-season in a promotion battle by landing the signature of Tovide, who will join their attacking line-up as the replacement for Kone.
