Real Madrid went into last night’s UEFA Champions League clash against Olympiacos with only one fit centre-back in Raul Asencio.
Given the situation, manager Xabi Alonso had to use Alvaro Carreras as a makeshift partner for the academy graduate, who himself was playing through discomfort.
But there seems to be some good news on the horizon for Los Blancos as they gear up for their next assignment against Girona.
Indeed, according to journalist Miguel Angel Diaz on COPE, Real Madrid could recover two centre-backs, Antonio Rudiger and Dean Huijsen, before their game against Girona.
Huijsen had returned early from the Spain camp during the international break due to discomfort.

Having recovered, he started against Elche, but picked up some problem during that game over the weekend, leading to his absence for the trip to Athens.
As for Rudiger, the veteran defender has been out since September due to an injury. However, having recovered sufficiently, he has resumed group training over the past week or so.
In fact, there was even a possibility that he could be included in the squad that travelled to Greece, but Real Madrid opted to be cautious with the player, given his lengthy absence.
However, now, with three days left before facing Girona, there is a chance that both Huijsen and Rudiger could be available at Alonso’s disposal, which will come as a timely boost for Real Madrid.
The report mentions that there is an outside chance that David Alaba might also recover, but Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao will be unavailable for the trip.
