Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is happy with the club’s transfer activity this summer, according to journalist Mario Cortegana in The Athletic.
It is known that after a disappointing season, a clear overhaul was necessary at Real Madrid, and Alonso has been central to shaping the squad for the new campaign.
Unlike Carlo Ancelotti, Alonso played a significant role in deciding on new signings. Real Madrid invested around €180 million in four key players, each targeting areas of need.
Trent Alexander-Arnold joined from Liverpool, while Dean Huijsen arrived from Bournemouth.
Alvaro Carreras strengthened the squad with his €50 million transfer from Benfica, and Franco Mastantuono was brought in from River Plate for.
The first three signings have helped rebuild a defence that needed improvement, while Mastantuono has already added fresh creativity and energy to Madrid’s attack.

Despite being pleased with the squad, Alonso reportedly believed that two additional signings were necessary.
One of these depended on Rodrygo leaving the club, which did not happen, so no further forward was added.
Meanwhile, the challenge of offloading players whose contracts were still active, such as Ferland Mendy and David Alaba, made it difficult to open space for extra signings. Furthermore, La Liga’s 25-player squad limit also restricted Madrid’s options.
Even with these constraints, Alonso’s influence is clear. His insistence on bringing in Alexander-Arnold Huijsen, Carreras, and Mastantuono shows his commitment to reshaping the team.
The balance between youth, defensive solidity, and attacking creativity provides Madrid with a strong foundation as they enter a crucial phase of the season.
While more reinforcements would have been ideal, the summer business gives Alonso the tools to push for success domestically and in Europe.
