Liverpool could not prevent Trent Alexander-Arnold from having his head turned by Real Madrid. The homegrown right-back opted to let his contract run down before making a lucrative move to the Bernabeu this summer.

Trent didn’t feature in that 4-0 hammering as he was injured and defeat has brought serious scrutiny on Xabi Alonso’s current squad.

We are already aware that their defence needs renewing and that’s why Ibrahima Konate is in focus for the 15-time European champions.

But Liverpool must now face ANOTHER transfer threat from Madrid as Alonso has identified who he wants as the new face of his project.

The former Liverpool midfielder wants €100m-rated Alexis Mac Allister according to a new report in Fichajes.

The Argentina international, it is reckoned, would provide the balance that Alonso requires in his new-look Madrid line-up - with Los Blancos seeming a little top-heavy at the CWC.

It’s not going to be easy for Madrid to finance a deal in the current climate. Sales are required - with Rodrygo, Dani Ceballos and Brahim Diaz all earmarked for departures.

If - and when - Real get rid of the above players then a plan can be put in place for Mac Allister’s arrival.

“The Basque manager believes the Argentine is the ideal player to bring a qualitative leap to his midfield, but he knows the move can only be executed when the club completes the departure of a key figure like Rodrygo Goes or another significant sale,” a report reads.

“The signing is in the planning phase, but the manager's desire is firm and the name of the current Liverpool player is a top priority.

“The club's sporting directorate is already preparing an initial offer of around €100 million, although they are willing to expand their offer if they can close other deals, such as those for Dani Ceballos and Brahim Díaz.”

Madrid want Mac Allister to pressure Liverpool

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes have got no plans to get rid of Alexis - who was the heartbeat of last season’s 2024/25 Premier League title win.

But it’s been revealed that Madrid have got a plan to lean on Alexis in order to make it known he wants an IMMEDIATE move to Spain.

“The strategy is to convince the player to pressure Liverpool and facilitate a move this summer,” a report reads.

“The deal is already underway, and Xabi Alonso's desire is firm: he wants Mac Allister as the heart of his new Real Madrid.”

Mac Allister is under contract at Anfield until 2028 and made 49 appearances in total for the Reds last season.
