Xabi Alonso has not been shy of rotating his players at Real Madrid since the new season started. Indeed, the manager has not repeated a single starting lineup in the seven games so far, carefully managing his players’ minutes.

However, three players have started each of the seven matches for Real Madrid so far – Thibaut Courtois in goal, Kylian Mbappe in attack, and new signing Alvaro Carreras in defence.

Rest for Alvaro Carreras coming in soon

Now, according to Defensa Central, Xabi Alonso is seriously considering resting Carreras after Saturday’s derby against Atletico Madrid.

The plan of the coach and his staff is to give the 22-year-old left-back his first rest of the season in the match against Kairat Almaty next week in the UEFA Champions League.

Given that Carreras has played every single game so far and was seen icing his leg on the bench after being taken off vs Levante, a break would be welcome for the new signing.

In addition, this would give more confidence to Fran Garcia, with the trip to Kazakhstan viewed as the ideal opportunity for the defender to get more minutes under his belt.

Real Madrid are very happy with how things are progressing with Carreras, who has silenced all debate about his €50 million price tag since arriving from Benfica.

However, they are aware that his workload needs to be managed. Alonso and his technical staff want Carreras fully available for the most decisive matches of the season.

With too many games ahead, he cannot play everything, so Garcia must also be given opportunities, which will come next week against Kairat Almaty.
