Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has delivered the last information and opinion on Xabi Alonso becoming Chelsea’s new manager.

The news came out soon after Chelsea lost in the FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday. It was very timely to say the least. I am pretty sure that the club were not going to announce the appointment as soon as this, but it was a smart PR move to offer a real pick me up and sense of excitement to Chelsea fans.

Everyone has since been putting out their info and also their opinions on Alonso coming in at Chelsea and what he is going to bring. Romano is feeling very positive on it all with his latest.

In words picked up on SPTC today, Romano said:

“Xabi Alonso really believes he can do special things in his next chapter, and this chapter is going to be at Chelsea.

“Alonso was always the priority, and Andoni Iraola was one of the names under consideration, but Chelsea were never fully convinced to go all in for Iraola.

“Alonso will be involved in the conversations about signings, exits, sales, so he’s going on work on the pitch, but also off the pitch.

“Obviously, in some moments at Chelsea, this was one of the points that created some problems in the recent times, but Chelsea are prepared, first of all, to add experienced players to the squad, not only experienced players, but also experienced players to the talents they have and the talents they are tracking.

“But Xabi is also going to be part of the conversation when it’s time to pick the ideal player, understanding which position they want to add the signing, and Chelsea believe this is a really, really important point of this new appointment.”

Xabi Alonso believes the Chelsea squad can be shaped in his image, but a few tweaks will be required according to reports over the weekend.
