Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has provided an insight into the frustrated reaction of a member of his attacking ranks to being substituted on Saturday.

The player in question? Franco Mastantuono.

Youngster Mastantuono was for his part in from the off once again earlier today.

This came as Real Madrid welcomed Espanyol to the Spanish capital, for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, it was the evening’s hosts who emerged on the right side of the result, triumphing by two goals to one.

And the aforementioned Mastantuono played a starring role en route to as much.

A consistent source of excellence on the ball, the summer arrival in La Liga proved a constant thorn in the side of the Espanyol backline.

Mastantuono, in turn, was singled out for widespread acclaim on the part of fans, pundits and the media alike.

And the 18-year-old was himself evidently aware that he was in fine form on Saturday.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s latest victory, Xabi Alonso was drawn on the frustrated reaction of Vinícius Jr. to being hauled off late on.

And Real Madrid’s headmaster responded by highlighting the equally disappointed response of Mastantuono, explaining:

“Even Franco, when I was subbing him off, he looked at me and said “you’re subbing ME?” and I said “Yes Franco, I’m subbing you”, he was a bit mad. So everyone wants to play, not just Vini.”
