Xabi Alonso tells Chelsea he wants to work with Arsenal star

Xabi Alonso was the driving force behind Real Madrid’s interest in competing with Arsenal for Martin Zubimendi a year ago, and according to Fichajes, he has now asked Chelsea to sign the midfielder.

Zubimendi enjoyed a highly successful first season with Arsenal, becoming a regular member of the team that won the league title and reached the final of the Champions League.

The Spaniard is currently the first-choice defensive midfielder at the club, and Arsenal consider him one of their most valuable players. His importance to the team means the Gunners are unlikely to consider allowing him to leave during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal will continue their efforts to strengthen the squad with more important signings, but they also want to keep key members of their current team, including Zubimendi.
