Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen set sights on another Real Madrid star | OneFootball

The powers that be at German giants Bayer Leverkusen are expressing an interest in the signing of a soon-to-be-former Real Madrid star.

That’s according to COPE, who have this weekend provided an insight into the situation.

The player in the sights of Xabi Alonso and his coaching staff with a view to next season, it is understood, comes in the form of Nacho.

Veteran defender Nacho is of course primed to bring a close to the Real Madrid chapter of his career this summer, after coming to the decision not to renew his expiring contract.

To date, the Saudi Pro League and MLS have been tipped as the most likely landing spots for the Spanish international.

As alluded to above, though, Nacho could yet be afforded the chance to extend his stay on the continent, as part of one of the most exciting projects in Europe’s top-5 leagues.

As per the aforementioned COPE, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer – who on Saturday extended their unbeaten run to a staggering 46 games across all competitions – have identified Nacho as a potential summer addition.

The Bundesliga champions are keen to reinforce their defensive ranks with a view to next season, with the 34-year-old considered a viable candidate.

Interestingly, this comes just days on from Leverkusen also being linked with Rafa Marín, currently on loan at Alavés from Real Madrid.

Nacho, however, would seemingly take some convincing, with it added that he is eager to try a new experience outside of Europe.
