Xaver Schlager sets European aim at Forest as Ipswich complete £34.9m triple swoop | OneFootball

Xaver Schlager has become Oliver Glasner’s first Nottingham Forest signing and the Austrian international midfielder has set his sights on helping the club back into Europe. Leeds United visit the City Ground on Saturday, 22 August.

“It’s a big honour to be here and I’m very happy,” said Schlager on the club’s website. “I want to help the club back into Europe.”

He praised Forest’s tradition and European Cup success under Brian Clough, spoke of wanting a new challenge and said Glasner’s presence made the move feel right.

Glasner announced in January that he would leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, then was appointed Forest head coach earlier this month after Vitor Pereira departed. Forest had four managers in 2025-26, flirted with relegation and finished fifth-bottom, three points behind newly-promoted Leeds. They still reached last season’s Europa League final.

Schlager arrives on a free transfer after his RB Leipzig contract expired.

Elsewhere, newly promoted Ipswich Town have completed a quick triple swoop, signing Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City, Issa Diop from Fulham and goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen from FC Volendam.

Fatawu costs £20m plus £3m in add-ons, Diop £8.5m and van Oevelen around £3.4m, a total outlay of £34.9m including add-ons.
