Although FC Barcelona were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stage, there is no doubt that this has still been a highly successful season for the Blaugranes.
Hansi Flick has already led his team to win two trophies, the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey, and thus has already shown visible improvement in the team that ended the last season without a trophy.
The Catalan team’s performances this season have not resulted in a lot of credit and praise for Hansi Flick, but have also led to criticism about the former coach Xavi Hernandez. However, there is no doubt that the former midfielder had done a lot of work that provided the basis for this team.
In fact, Xavi Hernandez had given two of the current starters of the Blaugrana team their debuts during his tenure, i.e., Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the former Barcelona coach expressed his pride in this aspect of his coaching career as he appeared in a recent interview:
“If you ask me if I’m happy and proud to have given the debut to Lamine and (Pau) Cubarsí, of course I am. Lamine is a genius. He will become the best.”
The Spanish tactician also expressed his delight with how the team is developing:
“It’s hard to go to a stadium. My son wants us to go see Barcelona, but it’s difficult to sit in the stands. So I watch it on TV and enjoy Hansi’s team. They press down the flanks, with Raphinha and Lamine pushing up at the same time, just like the full-backs. Defenders Íñigo, Cubarsí, and Araujo read the offside trap wonderfully.”

Xavi praised Pedri in particular for his intelligence:
“He doesn’t lose the ball. He makes the best decisions every time he has it… He always chooses the best option, and Frenkie (de Jong) is also in good form.”
The Blaugrana legend also justified his work and defended himself for not winning a trophy in every season as a manager:
“It takes time to build a project. Even now, Barcelona is under construction. I was criticized when I said that as a coach, but Lamine is 17 years old. Cubarsí is 18. Pedri is 22, Gavi 20, Balde 21. But if you don’t win anything in a season, people panic.”
It is good to really a legend and big as Xavi still supporting the team after his rather unceremonious exit at the end of the last season. There is no doubt that he has contributed a lot to this Barcelona project, and hopefully he will remain associated with the club in some capacity in the future as well.
