Cagliari forward Yael Trepy is in a serious condition after a near-drowning at a villa in Costa Smeralda, Sardinia, on Sunday 16 August around 18:00.
The club said in a statement that he is in intensive care at Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari, is in contact with doctors and his family, is closely monitoring developments and has requested maximum privacy.
Emergency responders intubated him at the scene, then he was flown by helicopter to hospital.
A CT scan detected significant water in his lungs, hindering oxygen exchange. Doctors have placed him in an induced coma to limit further damage and protect him during treatment.
The 20-year-old French forward was born near Paris on 20 May 2006. He joined Cagliari’s academy in 2022 after time with US Créteil-Lusitanos and other French youth sides.
A tall attacker capable of playing through the middle, off the striker or wide, he made his Serie A debut earlier this year against Cremonese, coming on late and quickly equalising for 2-2.
He started Friday’s Coppa Italia tie, playing most of Cagliari’s 1-0 win over Arezzo, and had recently extended his deal until 2030.
