Cagliari’s 20-year-old French forward Yael Trepy is in intensive care at Sassari hospital in Sardinia. The club has not disclosed the circumstances.

According to Corriere della Sera, Trepy was involved in an accident at a swimming pool while spending Sunday at a villa in the north-east of the island. He reportedly got into difficulty in a deep section, was pulled from the water quickly, then airlifted to Sassari.

Trepy, who came through at Créteil, made eight Serie A appearances in the second half of last season. He marked his debut by helping Cagliari secure a 2-2 draw with Cremonese.

He started on Friday in Cagliari’s first Coppa Italia match, a 1-0 win against Arezzo, a Serie B side.
