FC Barcelona managed to secure their place in the next round of the Copa del Rey with a 2-0 victory over Racing Santander. In a close contest, it took something special from the Catalan giants to finally break the deadlock and seal the win.
Ultimately, goals from Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal enabled La Blaugrana to come away with a crucial win. While the team remained largely in control throughout, certain players rose to the occasion and helped secure this much-needed result.
Here are the player ratings for Hansi Flick’s team.
Starting XI:
Joan Garcia: 8.0/10
Made a massive save in the dying moments of the game that proved crucial for Barcelona, while his distribution and composure throughout the match were impressive.
Jules Kounde: 6.5/10
The Frenchman delivered a decent performance, with his ability to play the offside trap correctly standing out. However, he was still beaten too easily at times by the opposition.
Pau Cubarsi: 7.5/10
Not tested much by the opposition, but did well to play out from the back and distribute the ball even under pressure. His partnership with Gerard Martin paved the way for another clean sheet.
Gerard Martin: 7.0/10
Similar to Cubarsi, he was not tested much but did well to contest for the ball and distribute it as required. It was good to see him back in the starting eleven as Barcelona kept another clean sheet.
Alejandro Balde: 6.0/10
Far too one-dimensional to trouble Racing and easy to read for much of the game. His runs were too basic, and his coordination with Marcus Rashford left a lot to be desired.
Marc Casado: 7.5/10
Important to the team in more ways than one, contesting duels well and showing both heart and intensity. While he could have done better in certain situations, he had a solid overall performance.
Marc Bernal: 7.5/10
Looked sharp and composed on the ball for most of the match. He did give away a few wayward passes, but he ran the midfield for large spells while he was on the pitch.
Lamine Yamal: 8.5/10
After struggling to make a real impact in the first half, Lamine Yamal came alive after the break. His dribbling was sharper, his creativity returned, and he moved with greater purpose. He also capped his display with a late goal.
Dani Olmo: 7.0/10
Showed some sharp touches and passes in tight spaces, manoeuvring well despite pressure. However, he could not translate this into a decisive contribution in front of the goal.
Marcus Rashford: 6.5/10
The English forward had a few promising moments but should have done better with the chances that came his way.
Ferran Torres: 7.5/10
Quiet for much of the match, though he contributed defensively at corners. When composure was required, he delivered perfectly by scoring the opening goal.
Substitutes:
Fermin Lopez: 8.0/10
Made an immediate impact after coming on, bringing much-needed intensity. Delivered a sensational assist for Ferran Torres’ opener.
Pedri: 7.5/10
Sublime and magisterial, the young Spanish midfielder looked a level above those around him, which was evident in his touches and passing.
Robert Lewandowski: 6.5/10
A good display from the Polish forward, holding up the ball well when required.
Raphinha: 8.0/10
Like Fermin Lopez, Raphinha added far more directness late on and provided the assist for Barcelona’s second goal.
Eric Garcia: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
