Barcelona’s place in the Champions League round of 16 was sealed after an impressive 4-1 win over Copenhagen

As the Blaugrana confirmed a top-eight finish and avoided an uncomfortable playoff tie, the spotlight naturally fell on Lamine Yamal, who once again proved decisive on Europe’s biggest stage.

The 18-year-old was at the heart of everything important. After setting up Robert Lewandowski for the equaliser, Yamal took matters into his own hands.

Speaking after the match, Yamal made it clear that the team arrived with a clear objective and never lost belief, even after conceding first.

“We all came here thinking about finishing in the top eight, and I’m very happy with the victory.

“They got a lot stronger after their goal, but I’m very happy with the comeback,” explained Lamine.

More on the competition

The winger also opened up about how different the Champions League feels compared to domestic competition.

According to Yamal, Europe brings out a freer version of his game, one where space, responsibility, and confidence all come together.

“In the Champions League, I feel freer, happier, and very content. Sometimes it’s one-on-one or one-on-two, which is different from when we play here.

“When I can give the team an advantage, I’m happy,” acknowledged the Barça player.

Lewandowski’s analysis

While Yamal grabbed the headlines, Lewandowski also had plenty to celebrate. The Polish striker highlighted the importance of finishing inside the top eight.

“When you play so many games, coming back late from trips, and playing every three days, it’s good to be able to rest and focus on training.

“We played a great game, and now we can concentrate on the next games,” he said.

The goal also continued Lewandowski’s return to form in Europe after a slow start to the campaign.

Reflecting on his recent scoring run, the veteran striker stressed patience and team success above all else.

“Sometimes you need patience in football. This year I wanted to start at a very high level, and I needed a little time to get there.

“For me, the important thing is that the team wins, and if I can help by scoring one or two goals, I’m happy,” he concluded.
