A fierce battle amongst England’s elite is set to erupt this summer as yet another Premier League heavyweight enters the fray for Manchester United target Yan Diomande, according to a new report.
The Mirror reveals table toppers Arsenal are now “monitoring” the RB Leipzig starlet as the North London club searches for a long-term solution on the left wing.
Gabriel Martinelli remains an inconsistent player while Leandro Trossard turns 32 next season, and Eberechi Eze’s best position is more central.
Diomande – a devastating winger with game-changing dribbling ability – is a natural target for the Gunners as the 19-year-old continues to go from strength to strength in the Bundesliga.
Across 14 appearances in Germany, Diomande has returned seven goals and four assists, immediately establishing himself as Leipzig’s most potent attacker.
Equally capable of playing on either side, the Ivory Coast international is currently representing his country at the African Cup of Nations, alongside fellow winger – and Red Devil – Amad.
The prospect of the pair lining up in the same side at Old Trafford is a tantalising one for United fans with INEOS having identified Diomande as an alternative to Antoine Semenyo, who rebuffed their advances in favour of a switch to Manchester City.
The departure of Ruben Amorim, give his marching orders on Monday morning, and his winger-less 3-4-2-1 system further increases the need to secure an option like Diomande, given the Portuguese coach’s replacement is expected to play in a manner which reflects the attacking ethos of the club.
Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have also expressed interest, meaning the Premier League’s biggest clubs are all preparing for a red-hot race to secure the Ivorian speedster’s signature this summer.
The Athletic reveals it will require a fee of £86 million to prise Diomande from the Red Bull Arena, with the German club understood to consider him one of their best prospects in years.
There is zero appetite for a January exit, meaning INEOS have until the end of the season to position themselves ahead of their rivals – and they may have an ace up their sleeve to secure the spell-binding winger.
Recruitment director Christopher Vivell, described by sources as increasingly influential at Old Trafford, has extensive contacts in the Red Bull organisation, having previously worked for Leipzig.
This connection was believed to be crucial in the Red Devils trumping Newcastle United to Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko last summer. It is time for Vivell to work his magic a second time to secure the next big thing from the Bundesliga.
Diomande looks destined for play in the Premier League next season; INEOS must ensure it is with a Red shirt on his back.
