Yan Diomande capped Real Madrid’s run of private unveilings at Valdebebas on Tuesday. 19 days after his transfer was confirmed, the Ivorian signed a symbolic contract to 2033 and posed with the number 25. He was joined by family, Florentino Pérez and honorary president Pirri.
Held without fans or media, the ceremony came with no press conference. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, that mirrored the quiet arrivals of Bernardo Silva, Konaté, Dumfries, Carlos Espí and Marc Cucurella.
Instead, a highlights video headlined the event, underlining Madrid’s €125 million fee plus €15 million in add-ons. It showcased his dribbling, goals and direct running from RB Leipzig, where he delivered 12 goals and nine assists last season.
The edit even included the move that led to Espí’s goal against Espanyol, which gave Madrid the win, started by Diomande during a 30-minute official debut with limited impact. He had already featured in pre-season against Schalke.
"I am proud and happy because this was my dream," he said on Realmadrid TV.
"He told me I was important to him. I said if he wanted me, of course I would go. It is Real Madrid and when it calls, you cannot say no," he said, speaking to SportyTV. He added, "If you play for Mourinho, you want to die for Mourinho."
After a run-out in Cornellà, he has the chance to make his Santiago Bernabéu bow against Real Sociedad on Thursday at 21.00.
