Liverpool have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Yan Diomande.

The Ivorian winger has opted to join a different club, with the 19-year-old the subject of intense transfer interest from a number of Europe’s leading clubs this summer.

The RB Leipzig forward has been courted by the Reds, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City among other sides in this transfer window, but now, it appears that his final destination has been revealed.

Ben Jacobs reports that Real Madrid have reached an agreement in principle with Leipzig for the winger, who had previously agreed personal terms with PSG.

Both Liverpool and Real made bids worth €100m for Diomande, who played for his country at this summer’s World Cup, which were knocked back by the Bundesliga side.

Now, however, it seems as though Real have submitted a bid worth more than that - with several reports suggesting the fee might reach €120m.

Jose Mourinho’s side had been after a winger, and they held interest in Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise before the German champions issued a hands-off warning, prompting Madrid to release a ‘Comunicado oficial’ to deny any interest in the player.

Widespread reports claim that Diomande has agreed a five-year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, although his move is not thought to be tied to the rumours surrounding a potential exit for Vinicius Junior.

Standard Sport understands that the Brazilian is on Arsenal’s radar, with the Gunners considering the forward among a number of options as they look to strengthen their options out wide.

As for Liverpool, Andoni Iraola and the Anfield hierarchy have been forced to turn their attentions elsewhere as they eye a winger, with their new manager emphasising the need for a new wide man in the first press conference of his tenure.

As such, that has led them to identify Bradley Barcola, the PSG winger, as their new No1 target, with the Frenchman unlikely to sign a new contract at the Parc des Princes.
