The Yankuba Minteh debate has gone up another notch.

The 20 year old (birthday six days ago) now making it two goals in two friendlies for Brighton.

The young player a controversial Newcastle United sale, along with Elliot Anderson, to meet a PSR shortfall last month by the 30 June 2024 accountancy deadline.

Newcastle United are now en route to Japan for two pre-season friendlies.

Whilst at the same time, Yankuba Minteh and Brighton are now making a return trip back to the UK, having had two friendlies/wins in Japan.

Brighton won 5-1 against Kashmira Antlers on Wednesday when Yankuba Minteh scored (watch below) only 15 minutes into his Brighton (friendly) debut.

Now earlier today (Sunday 28 July), the Seagulls finished their pre-season trip to Japan with a 4-2 win against Tokyo Verdy at the Japan National Stadium, featuring an even better goal by Yankuba Minteh and a man of the match performance.

Sussex World report after Tokyo Verdy 2 Brighton 4- 28 July 2024:

‘Yankuba Minteh 9 [out of 10]

Newcastle could well regret letting this guy leave.

A sublime finish to make it 2-1 as he cut in from the right flank and curled a fine effort to the far post.

Two in two from the Japan tour and the £35m man looks a ruthless finisher to go with the skills.’

Only time will tell just how much of a loss, or not, the departures of Yankuba Minteh and/or Elliot Anderson prove to be.

However, the club surely has to now better position itself, so we no longer see young promising players having to be sold at the last minute as a PSR solution…
