Yassin Belkhdim has decided to stay at SCO Angers and is now entrusted with a midfield role under Stéphane Gilli.
The 24-year-old Moroccan started the early season matches against Lille, a 0-2 defeat, then Auxerre, a 3-1 win. According to L'Équipe, several foreign clubs showed interest during the summer, but Gilli’s approach and a move inside convinced him to remain.
With the window closed and doubts eased, his focus turns to Rennes’ visit on Sunday at 17:15, live on Ligue 1+, available on L'Équipe. He said the summer period can leave players mentally unsettled.
Used mainly on the right last season, he adds that the coach will grant him freedom in midfield and that playing in what he considers his position was crucial.
The added responsibility fuels his ambition to improve while moving beyond a marathoner tag, stressing he reads the game well and adapts to situations. With Belkebla and Mouton still rebuilding fitness, he will have a central role to play against Rennes.
