Yaya Touré has been appointed head coach of Slovan Bratislava, his first role as a manager.
L'Équipe reports that the eight-time Slovak champions confirmed the 43-year-old Ivorian on a three-year contract on Saturday.
Since retiring, the former Monaco, Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder has worked as an assistant at Olimpik Donetsk, Akhmat Grozny and Standard Liège, and with the Saudi Arabia national team.
In the Slovak capital he replaces Vladimir Weiss, who had been in charge since 2021.
Touré said he is delighted and excited, and is keen to start work on Monday. He expressed respect for his predecessor and wants to build on that foundation while adding his own touch. He aims for dominant, winning football that controls matches and entertains supporters, and spoke of embracing the club’s rich history, fine stadium and big ambitions.
