Yeray Álvarez nears return as training video follows 10-month ban ruling

Yeray Álvarez has signalled he is close to rejoining the group, posting training footage and a hopeful message after months away from Athletic and missing the entire Champions League campaign.
The player said in a post that it has been many months without training with the team and many days away from team-mates. He added he most missed the daily life, jokes, laughter and sense of belonging, and that he keeps working because he feels his moment is getting closer.
He also confirmed a test to assess his legs and fitness, a key step before fully rejoining collective work. He said he is eager to be back with everyone.
UEFA imposed a 10-month suspension after a positive test in the Europa League against Manchester United. The case found no intent, concluding the banned substance entered his system after he mistakenly took his partner's hair-loss medication that contained it. It also underlined that players remain responsible for checking any medication.
The sanction has been in effect since two June, when he voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension.
Under current regulations, Yeray can resume team training on two February 2026 and is eligible for official competition from two April 2026.
