Brentford have confirmed that Yoane Wissa has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new three-year contract.

The new deal will see the DR Congo international remain at the Gtech Community Stadium until 2026, while the club has the option to extend the deal by a further year.

The versatile forward has proven a reliable figure in Thomas Frank’s side this season, having featured in every Premier League game.

The 26-year-old has contributed five goals and two assists despite starting just 13 games and has played a pivotal part in helping the Bees to a top-half finish.

Brentford are currently ninth in the Premier League standings and on course to improve on their 13th-place finish to a top-flight campaign from last season.

“I’m very pleased that Wissa has signed a new contract,” the Brentford manager said after Wissa put pen to paper on a new deal. “He’s been a great addition to the club since he arrived.

“He’s a very good player who has proved he can score goals in the Premier League. It’s a big thing to have a player like him in the squad.

“He is also fantastic for the culture of the group – he brings energy and a smile every single day, which drives the group forward a lot. He is a pleasure to work with.”

Wissa joined the Bees from Ligue 1 club Lorient in 2021 and has made 70 appearances for them, scoring 15 goals and assisting four.

Since he arrived at Brentford, only Ivan Toney has scored more goals for the club than Wissa, highlighting his importance to the side.

Wissa has been on a patchy run of form in front of goal recently, with his last goal coming in the 3-0 success over Southampton in February.

The versatile forward will hope to make a difference when Frank’s side travel to Merseyside to take on Liverpool at Anfield next weekend.
