Newcastle United forward Yoane Wissa has been ruled out for around four to five weeks due a knee injury.
But he sustained a knee injury while playing for DR Congo against Senegal last week.
Wissa returned to Newcastle and underwent a series of scans to confirm the full extent of the issue.
Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie now reports the player’s injury is not as bad as first feared, but he is not expected to be available until the end of the next international break in October.
Wissa will likely miss the three Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, two Champions League encounters against Barcelona and Union Saint-Gilloise and a Carabao Cup game against Bradford City.
The DR Congo international’s injury comes as a big blow for Newcastle who face several crucial fixtures over the coming weeks.
Manager Eddie Howe will mainly rely on Nick Woltemade, who marked his debut with a decisive goal in Saturday’s home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The English boss has Will Osula as a back-up option, while Anthony Gordon can also be deployed as a striker.
Although Gordon will serve his suspension against Bournemouth next week after receiving a red card during the 3-2 defeat against Liverpool last month.
