Journalist Pietro Mazzara has responded to the comments made by Gerry Cardinale, insisting that an ‘American method’ cannot win in Italy.
The media in Italy this morning have naturally picked up on the comments that emerged yesterday from several key figures at Milan. It was on December 11 that the Harvard Business School released a document containing a very interesting case study on Milan, with comments from key figures.
Obviously, the contribution of Cardinale was the one that generated the most scrutiny. A combination of the doubts that surround his ambition of the club and the mixed results so far this season have led to a line-by-line analysis.
Mazzara published his weekly column for MilanNews and in the first part of it he decided to address the comments that the Milan owner made about his plans for the club. His piece is titled: ‘American style? You have to Italianise to win’.

“Yesterday was characterised by the many statements of the AC Milan board present in the Harvard Business School study that the editorial staff of MilanNews.it, with detailed and meticulous work, made available to everyone (even those who cut and sewed without effort and without spending a euro, without citing),” he began.
“[There were] Many passages, including those of Cardinale and Furlani, that gave a snapshot of what is the way of seeing AC Milan by the American owners. Is it a model that is successful with the fans? To date I would say no.
“Because it is something far from what has always been done in Italy and revolutions, as on the issue of commissions to agents, cannot be made by just one person. Either there is a system ready to change or you have to take some things of what you want to change and integrate them into a new vision.

“But the final objective must truly be victory and such objectives are manifested with the results on the field, which are the result of market choices, both with regards to the players and the choice of coaches. Milan, despite having played one game less, are 14 points behind Atalanta, which is the real example to follow.
“Everything that emerged from the words of Cardinale and the other interviewees is combined with the news of the refinancing of the vendor loan by RedBird, which in fact extended its stay at Milan until July 2028. In this period of time, however, we will have to understand what kind of Milan there will be.”
