Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has given his thoughts on Marcelino Nunez's controversial move to Ipswich Town.

Chilean midfielder Marcelino Nunez stunned the Championship last week by deciding to leave Norwich City for arch rivals Ipswich Town.

Nunez's departure itself was not a surprise, with the 25-year-old being a standout performer for the Canaries. However, Ipswich would have been the last destination imagined by Norwich supporters.

After a deal worth up to £10 million was reached, Nunez went on to receive understandable criticism, including from ex-Norwich winger Onel Hernandez, who posted a 13-minute rant about the move on his YouTube channel.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie went on to give his thoughts regarding the move, and expressed his lack of surprise at the midfielder's decision to make the East Anglian switch.

When asked whether he was shocked at the switch, Hendrie replied: "No, not really. In football these days, nothing ever really shocks me."

"You see the news that Nunez has joined Ipswich, and, as a Norwich fan, you would not be happy. But Ipswich have just come down from the Premier League, and the chance for progression is there."

Hendrie went on to outline what Nunez could potentially bring to Portman Road: "He is a really, really good player, there is no doubt about that."

"Ipswich see the potential in him, and that is why they are bringing him to the football club. It is likely more Nunez himself who is thinking of playing Premier League football next season, particularly with the way that Ipswich have recruited."

While the Tractor Boys are yet to win a Championship match this season, the quality in their squad alongside the retention of manager Kieran McKenna still sees Ipswich as one of the favourites to be in and around the promotion race come May - something that will have been on Nunez's mind when weighing up the switch.

Pressure is on Nunez to succeed

A lot of eyes will be on Nunez this season. Norwich fans will be paying close attention, waiting for just one drop in form or for a mistake of some kind. This will be further exacerbated when the clubs meet at Portman Road on October 5.

Nunez boasts sensational technical ability, and he will be a great asset in McKenna's midfield after his side have struggled to create clear-cut opportunities across the season's opening weeks.

However, the pressure will undoubtedly still be there throughout the season. Nunez is the first player to make the controversial move across East Anglia since Andy Marshall in 2001.

From an Ipswich standpoint, the move may be enough to see him gain somewhat of a cult hero status even in the early days of his career at the club; however, there will be eyes watching from afar waiting for just one slip-up.
