Olivier Giroud (39) has quite the goal catalogue, but in an interview with L’Équipe, the Frenchman has named the finest goal of his career.

Since the start of his career, at Grenoble Foot back in 2005, Giroud has scored a total of 213 goals in 573 games at club level, whilst he also has another 57 at international level, making him France’s top scorer. That record, it is expected, will soon be broken by Kylian Mbappé, who is honing in on the former Arsenal and Chelsea forward’s total.

Giroud has, throughout his career, had an eye for the spectacular. Whilst he has rarely been prolific, he has always been a scorer of great goals. “My best goals aren’t too bad,” he joked during an interview with L’Équipe.

He added, “A showman? Not like the geniuses, the magicians, the dribblers like Neymar, the guys who get the crowd on their feet with their moves, but in another way, yes, I am.”

He then went on to name the best goal of his playing career. “It’s still the scorpion kick with Arsenal. With all humility, this action, you’ll never see it again,” said Giroud. That goal came in a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day back in 2017.

Giroud, in the same interview, alluded to a potential retirement at the end of the season, although he does have the option to extend another year at Lille OSC, which he did not rule out triggering. The scorer of great goals, he may not get the chance to net too many more before he hangs up his boots.
