Roberto Mancini, who controversially stepped down as Italy’s national team coach in 2023, regrets that decision and would like to return to replace Luciano Spalletti. Would it be wise for the Federation?
Mancini said in his latest interview with Gazzetta dello Sport that he’d be glad to return in charge of the Italy national team, less than two years after he stepped down.
Mancini agreed to become the Saudi Arabia national team coach in August 2023, just a few weeks after leaving the Azzurri, but only remained in charge until October 2024.

Mancio won the Euros with Italy in 2021, but failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup only a few months later.
The Italian Federation sacked Luciano Spalletti after a 3-0 loss against Norway last week. Spalletti awkwardly took charge of a game against Moldova on Monday, and the FIGC is now looking for a new head coach.
Ex-Italy international Gattuso has held talks with Delegation Chief Gigi Buffon, a fellow 2006 World Cup winner, but President Gabriele Gravina said on Thursday the FIGC is in no hurry to choose a new coach.
