Darren Fletcher confronted an abusive Manchester United supporter outside Old Trafford following Thursday night’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah.

United’s Under-18s head coach challenged the fan near the first-team coach after players had declined to stop for autographs, earning applause from other supporters at the scene.

The incident followed a comfortable evening on the pitch as the Red Devils marked their return to the Champions League with a comprehensive win over their Azerbaijani opponents.

Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko and Lisandro Martinez supplied the goals for Michael Carrick’s side.

The players began making their way home after the match, with some leaving near the first-team coach without stopping to sign autographs. This prompted a barrage of insults from one angry fan.

What Fletcher told the supporter

Fletcher said: “Listen, it doesn’t matter, you can’t speak like that.”

He then added: “Show some respect. You’re the reason people don’t sign.”
