Yuri Alberto reaches rare milestone among Corinthians strikers

Corinthians was defeated by Ceará 1-0 on the afternoon of last Sunday (9), at the Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship. The defeat left the team in only 13th place with 42 points (11 wins, nine draws, and 13 losses – 35 goals scored and 38 conceded).

The match also marked the 200th game of striker Yuri Alberto, being only the fifth to reach this milestone among all players in his position who have played for the club in the 21st century. Considering the current Alvinegro squad, only Ángel Romero has more games than the number 9, with 374. Besides those mentioned, Jô (284), Gil (241), and Jorge Henrique (216) were strikers who reached the mentioned number of games.

Gil, in fact, was the first striker to complete 200 games for Corinthians this century. Furthermore, Yuri Alberto became the 24th Corinthians player to reach this mark since 2001. The player with the most games for the Parque São Jorge club since then is goalkeeper Cássio, one of the greatest in Alvinegro's history, with 712 games. He is followed by right-back Fagner (578) – currently on loan to Cruzeiro – and former defender Gil (444) complete the top-3.

In 200 games for Corinthians (171 as a starter), with 89 wins, 51 draws, and 60 losses – a little over 53% success rate, there are 73 goals scored and 20 assists. The number 9 is Corinthians' top scorer in the 21st century and the top scorer at the Neo Química Arena, inaugurated in 2024, with 47 goals scored. The center forward was crucial in winning the 2025 Paulista Championship, against Palmeiras, in Itaquera.

Yuri Alberto initially joined Corinthians on loan from Zenit, Russia, in mid-2022, until mid-2023. At the beginning of the following year, he was permanently acquired from the Russian team, in a negotiation that involved goalkeeper Ivan, defender Robert Renan, midfielder Du Queiroz, and forwards Pedro and Mantuan.

In July of this year, his contract with Corinthians was renewed until July 2030 with a national release clause of R$ 500 million and an international one of 100 million euros (R$ 616 million at the current exchange rate). The striker is the top scorer for the Corinthians team this season with 16 goals and two assists in 51 games.

His best moment in the Corinthians jersey happened in the second half of last year, where he was decisive for the team in the Brasileirão 2024 surge – from the relegation zone to the Pre-Libertadores -, being the top scorer of the national competition with 15 goals scored. In the year, there were 31, being the top scorer among all Série A athletes in Brazil.
