Yuri Berchiche agrees one-year Athletic extension to 2027 | OneFootball

Yuri Berchiche has agreed a new one-year extension with Athletic, taking his contract through to June 2027.

According to AS, negotiations ran from before Easter and concluded in the second week of June. President Jon Uriarte said he felt optimistic about reaching a final agreement.

After an outstanding season under Valverde, the left back sought recognition of his value. He has described his years at Athletic as the best of his career and life, adding that continuing to add matches is an honour.

The deal means Terzic arrives for his new stint with the left flank well covered.

Ibaigane has often enforced significant pay cuts on one-year or 1+1 renewals for veterans such as Joseba Etxeberria, Raúl García and Óscar de Marcos.

Those conditions do not apply to Berchiche despite him being 36, with no clear successor in that role from Lezama and a limited Bilbao market. He previously played for Real Valladolid, SD Eibar and Real Sociedad.
