After the dismissal of Piotr Stokowiec earlier in the month, Zagłębie Lubin have moved to appoint Waldemar Fornalik as their new coach. The former Poland international manager has signed a contract with the Miedziowi until 2024.
The appointment of Fornalik ends a period of uncertainty for Zagłębie, who were without a permanent coach for their home match against Raków Częstochowa in the final matchday of autumn. Paweł Karmelita had stood in to take temporary charge for the 2-1 defeat.
Fornalik’s enforced absence from the Ekstraklasa was shortlived. He himself had only been dismissed from Piast Gliwice in late October. Zagłębie are the latest in a long line of top flight clubs which Fornalik has taken charge of. As well as his successful stint at Piast, he also led Ruch Chorzów to medal positions in the Ekstraklasa, and had further spells at Górnik Zabrze, Widzew Łódź and Odra Wodzisław.
Fornalik will take charge of Zagłębie for the club’s winter training camp in Turkiye, and their last friendly against Chrobry Głogów, before leading the team in the Ekstraklasa.
