Zakharyan’s three goals in three years leave Real Sociedad seeking exit

Real Sociedad are seeking an exit for Arsen Zakharyan this summer, with only three goals across three seasons since his 12 million euros move from Dinamo Moscow in August 2023.

The 23-year-old arrived as a future star and is contracted until 2029. According to AS, inconsistency and on-pitch attitude have led the club to pursue a loan or sale to help him rediscover his level away from Anoeta.

His numbers show little progress. In 2023-24 he made 35 appearances in La Liga and the Copa del Rey, scoring one goal and adding two assists. Injuries ruined his second year, limiting him to three outings, though he did score a fine strike against Leganes. This season brought 21 games and 691 minutes, mostly as a substitute, with his only goal again in the cup.

Pellegrino Matarazzo’s arrival further reduced his role. The Russian featured only seven times under the coach and went unused from matchday 29 to 37. A late cameo in the penultimate home league fixture at Anoeta was viewed almost as a farewell.

The club still rates his technique but believes he needs regular football elsewhere and greater involvement to meet top-flight demands. The coming weeks will decide whether he leaves on loan to rebuild value or via a permanent transfer.
