Cruzeiro beat Remo 1-0 at Estádio Evandro Almeida on Saturday to climb from 16th to 11th in the Brasileirão, with Keny Arroyo settling the game with a crisp finish.
In the 34th minute, Arroyo guided a left-footed effort into the bottom left corner from the centre of the box after Bruno Rodrigues' assist.
Marcelo Rangel kept Leão Azul in it with sharp stops after the restart, denying Wanderson and Kaiki, having earlier dealt with Lucas Romero's drive. Matheus Cunha was largely protected by Zeiro's back line.
After changes, Leão Azul pushed on. Alef Manga's strike was held (89.). Then João Pedro headed over in the first minute of second half stoppage time as the hosts chased an equaliser.
First half rhythm was punctuated by treatment delays for Jajá and Mayk.
Zeiro were ultra-clinical, recording six shots on target from six attempts. Leão Azul produced 14 efforts but worked the goalkeeper once.
Next up, Leão Azul visit Botafogo in the Brasileirão. Zeiro host Boca Juniors in the Libertadores.
