According to Coluna Do Fla, Zenit are monitoring Flamengo striker Pedro as a potential replacement and could make an offer of up to €30 million if Maksim Glushenkov is sold.
Pedro is under contract with Flamengo until 2027, and any release clause is said to require a higher figure.
Pedro is considered non-negotiable by Flamengo. Even so, coach Filipe Luís has used alternatives to the number nine despite his availability.
Cruzeiro have Gerson's approval, but still need to strike a loan agreement with Zenit, with the fee proving a hurdle.
As talks continue, Gerson is enjoying his holidays in Brazil. If no move materialises, he is expected to report on 12 January for Zenit's return.
Gerson has had two spells with Flamengo, first in 2019 during the club's trophy-laden year, then from early 2023 until June 2025. After the Super Club World Cup in the United States, he accepted Zenit's offer and left.
Flamengo are also working on reinforcements for 2026. Vitão is the only deal agreed so far, while Kaio Jorge and Gabriel Brazão are on their radar.
