Zico, Flamengo's greatest idol, arrives on the big screen across Brazil from Thursday with the release of "Zico, o Samurai de Quintino". According to Globo.com, the feature charts his journey for club and country, plus spells in Italy and Japan.

Directed by João Wainer, the documentary weaves rare footage, archive material and previously unseen backstage moments from the career of Arthur Antunes Coimbra. Family, friends and notable football names contribute, including Júnior Maestro, Paulo César Carpegiani, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Ronaldo Fenômeno and radio commentator José Carlos Araújo.

The director said he has learned from Zico beyond trophies, citing humility, respect and kindness, and that the team worked with great dedication and affection to craft an emotional, information-rich film.

Production began in 2023 and spanned multiple locations. Quintino, in Rio de Janeiro’s North Zone, where Zico was born and which lends its name to the film, was a key set.

Japan also hosted shoots, reflecting his time with Kashima Antlers at the start of the professional era of Japanese football.

Distributor Downtown Filmes has launched a fan promotion. Anyone wearing a Clube de Regatas do Flamengo shirt at the cinema box office will be entitled to half-price entry, valid only during the film’s first week on release.
