Zimbabwe national team head coach Marian ‘Mario’ Marinica is optimistic about securing a favorable result against Bafana Bafana in their penultimate Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B outing on Monday (18h00).
The Warriors need nothing but a win to boost their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the continental showpiece, while South Africa must avoid defeat to book their spot in the next round of the competition.
This comes after Zimbabwe played to a one-all draw with Angola on Friday, which has both teams level on one point, much to the frustration of Marinica.
“It feels like two points dropped because we had several chances towards the end that could have finished the game. [Ishmael] Wadi had a big opportunity that had the potential to make a difference,” said the Romanian mentor, as quoted by Zimbabwean outlet Soccer24.
While the 61-year-old tactician in unhappy about dropping points against the Palancas Negras, he has firmly set sights on beating Hugo Broos' men in the final match.
“We came from behind against a very a good side and picked up a point, but we now need to win our last Group B game to stand a chance of reaching the knockout stage,” Marinica added.
It remains to be seen who will join the record seven-time African champions Egypt to advance to the next stage of the competition from Group B.
