Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has sacked head coach Michael Nees following a string of poor results.
The German mentor was appointed in July 2024 and was tasked with overseeing Zimbabwe's resurrection following the FIFA ban.
During his time at the helm, Nees guided the Warriors to two wins in the the 16 matches he was in charge of.
The two wins came against Namibia in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where he helped Zimbabwe seal qualification to the continental showpiece.
Now, former Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has reportedly been tipped to take over the vacant role.
He was recently roped in as assistant coach to Nees during the last two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers clash against Bafana Bafana and Lesotho.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) wishes to inform all stakeholders and members of the public that the Executive committee has resolved to terminate the contract of Mr. Michael Nees with immediate effect,” the statement read.
"The Association takes this opportunity to sincerely thank Mr. Nees for his efforts and contributions to Zimbabwean football during his tenure. His dedication to the game and his service to the national structures are appreciated.
"ZIFA remains firmly committed to strengthening its technical development programs and ensuring continued progress in all areas of the game in line with its reform and restructuring agenda.
