Zinedine Zidane is reported to have reached a verbal agreement with the French Football Federation (FFF) to become the next manager of the French national team, according to Le Parisien.
Having been tipped for several months to succeed Didier Deschamps – whose tenure as manager of Les Bleus is set to end after the 2026 World Cup – the legendary French number 10 is now understood to have agreed terms with the governing body of French football.
This news comes just a few hours after Philippe Diallo, president of the FFF, spoke out to announce that he now knows who “will be France’s next manager”. Despite this new development, it is unlikely that the official announcement will be made before Les Bleus set off for the United States, so as to provide Deschamps with the best possible environment in his bid to return to the pinnacle of world football.
At 53, Zidane, who shone on the Real Madrid bench and won three consecutive Champions League titles, is set to take charge of the first national team of his career – the very team with which he wrote one of the finest chapters of his career.
