Zinédine Zidane has kept a fixed salary of 300,000 euros gross a month as France head coach. He has dropped per match image rights payments, with greater rewards tied to major tournaments.

According to L'Équipe, his base pay mirrors Didier Deschamps's terms despite talk of heftier demands. FFF president Philippe Diallo was not minded to spend wildly, convinced the former No 10 would not make it about money.

In the national set-up, players receive around 22,000 euros per match as image rights bonuses that reflect commercial activity with sponsors. The head coach traditionally took two shares, so double that amount.

Under Zidane, that payment for the coach has been scrapped, unlike for the players. This trims his income but also simplifies matters, and it seems he did not want sponsor constraints given his many brand ties, not always those of the Bleus, for example Adidas rather than Nike.

Zidane and the FFF have agreed larger bonuses for World Cups and Euros to offset the change, which should allow him to boost earnings if the Bleus shine in the years ahead.
