Japan’s first-choice goalkeeper at the last World Cup, Zion Suzuki, 23, is attracting interest from PSG and Juventus, and plays for Parma.
He was the only member of Japan’s squad at the tournament born outside the country. Born in 2002 in Newark, New Jersey, he turns 24 on 21 August.
His father is of Ghanaian origin and his mother is Japanese.
“I chose to view my mixed origins as an asset, and I was aware of it from a very young age,” he told DAZN.
His given name was chosen in reference to Mount Zion, one of the hills of Jerusalem, in Israel.
