Zirkzee seals Netherlands victory over Serbia in Eindhoven | OneFootball

Joshua Zirkzee scored the winner as the Netherlands beat Serbia 2-1 in Eindhoven to move top of Nations League Group A2 and extend Xavi’s unbeaten start as head coach.

Teun Koopmeiners marked his first start under Xavi by opening the scoring shortly after the half-hour mark, whipping a low free-kick through a crowded penalty area and into the far corner.

Serbia levelled four minutes later when Mihajlo Cvetkovic rose above Koopmeiners to head home Aleksa Terzic’s cross for his first international goal.

Zirkzee was introduced at half-time and made the difference with 20 minutes remaining. Tijjani Reijnders pulled the ball across the area and the Manchester United forward was left with a simple finish.

The visitors pushed for another equaliser, but Bart Verbruggen produced important saves to preserve the lead.

The result completes a Nations League double over Serbia, while Virgil van Dijk marked his 100th international appearance. Serbia remain bottom of the group without a point.
