Former Serie A and Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola blames Erik ten Hag for Scott McTominay’s Napoli move in 2024 and says Rasmus Hojlund is ‘driving everyone crazy’ at Manchester United.
Former Italian striker Zola is impressed by Hojlund’s impact at Napoli and blames ex-Manchester United coach Ten Hag for McTominay’s move to the Stadio Maradona one and a half years ago.

Gazzetta dello Sport asked Magic Box to predict the key players in Serie A in 2026, and the former striker replied: “It’s complicated, almost impossible. I’d say Pio Esposito and Scamacca; they are gifts for the national team. Hojlund is driving everyone crazy, even people at Manchester United. After McTominay left because of Ten Hag’s reckless decisions, they let go of a striker like that.

“There’s also Lautaro Martinez or Marcus Thuram. Or even Cristian Chivu himself, or Antonio Conte, who could make history by winning two consecutive titles at Napoli.”
Zola also predicted that the Partenopei would win the Serie A title again in 2025-26. It would be the first time for the club to win two Scudetti in a row.

“I think Inter remain the best team, even if only by a little. But I’m romantic, and I’ll say Napoli because of what it has represented in my life. My first child was born there, and I’ve received so much.”
Napoli currently sit third in the Serie A table, but are just two points below leaders Inter. Nerazzurri and Partenopei will meet in just a few weeks as Antonio Conte’s men will travel to San Siro for a title showdown on January 11, 2026.
