Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford last night.

The Red Devils had a mixed opening half against the Tractor Boys, with two defensive errors costing them.

They were on the backfoot with Patrick Dorgu’s sending-off before the break but managed to be defensively solid in the second half.

Harry Maguire’s 47th-minute goal sealed the victory, but there were several players whose performances were questionable during the game.

Alejandro Garnacho was surprisingly substituted after Dorgu’s red card despite being one of the better performers at that point in time.

Rasmus Hojlund stayed on until the 67th minute, but the Dane barely made an impression again.

He registered just 12 touches and five passes against Ipswich. Hojlund did not win any of his six duels contested. He failed to attempt a single shot.

The 22-year-old had a perfect opportunity to score in the box when United were 3-2 up in the 58th minute but surprisingly opted to dummy the ball.

Hojlund also failed to win any of his dribbles. Casemiro eventually replaced him after his 4/10 performance, but he should have been subbed off earlier.

He has now failed to score in 16 appearances in all competitions.

Garnacho was unlucky to be taken off instead of Hojlund. The Argentine had two times more touches (26) and thrice the number of passes (15) as the Dane in 45 minutes.

Amorim’s surprise substitution did not hamper the overall result. United secured their first victory in four league games to move to 14th in the table with 33 points.

The Red Devils need to refocus as they prepare to host Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday.
