Elliot Anderson marked his World Cup debut with an assist and a standout shift as England opened with a 4-2 win over Croatia in Dallas.
Nottingham Post notes it is Forest's first England World Cup representative since Italia 90, when Stuart Pearce and Des Walker were involved.
Thomas Tuchel's side were level at 2-2 at the break. Anderson completed the 90 minutes and, after half-time, threaded a superb pass for Jude Bellingham to restore England's lead with their third.
The 23-year-old also recorded a game-high eight defensive contributions, underlining an all-round display. He showed little sign of the Manchester City speculation affecting him, and England now face Ghana on 23 June.
Bellingham, discussing the 23-pass move for his goal, said: "Really? I don't remember all 23. I remember Elliot's was pretty brilliant." He told ITV.
He added: "The work that goes into creating those kind of plays is one that takes us weeks to get right. Credit to the manager and his staff, they put us all in a position to be in our best places to make the difference - and we did it there."
