Over the course of the ongoing season, former Barcelona youth winger Jan Virgili continues to rise to the occasion. Now at RCD Mallorca, the 19-year-old winger keeps delivering performances that raise doubts about Barça’s decision to part ways with him.

Recently, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, while playing for Spain’s Under-21 side, he scored twice against San Marino, and both goals were clear indicators of the quality he possesses. Even with Mallorca, he has looked impressive so far this season, and his ability to influence games has been highlighted in particular.

Having been sold for around €4 million, it seems that Mallorca are enjoying the deal they made for Virgili. However, there is a 50 per cent sell-on clause and a buy-back clause attached that Barça could look to activate in the future.

As for the player himself, he recently spoke about his mentality when it comes to performing in games and said he remains grateful to Barcelona for the opportunities he received:

“I try not to be afraid to go for it; when you’re scared, you play worse. I’ll always be grateful to Barça — I spent a year there, started with the U19s, then moved to the B team, scored goals, and had a week of preseason with the first team.

At the same time, he also admitted that not getting to play for the Barça first team would always be a major regret if he is ultimately unable to achieve that dream:

“It was and still is my dream. I’ve been a Barça fan since I was a kid. If one day the first-team doors open for me, I’d be delighted. If I never return, it’ll always be a little thorn in my side.”

While a move is unlikely to become a reality any time soon, the fact that those clauses remain attached should be good news for those at Barça who would like him to return. For now, however, both La Blaugrana and the young winger have their own battles to focus on.
