Goals from Max Marie and Erencan Yardımcı, one in each half, were enough for Die Löwen to seal an impressive 2-0 win and earn three crucial points in their relegation fight.

The hosts came out with intent, asserting themselves from the opening minutes and forcing Jan Elvedi into a yellow card inside three minutes as he halted Yardımcı on a dangerous counter. Braunschweig’s approach was clear: disrupt the game, break up FCK’s rhythm and prevent the visitors from settling - and it worked superbly.

Although Kaiserslautern dominated possession, they were restricted to speculative efforts from distance, growing increasingly frustrated as the home side waited patiently for their moment. That moment arrived on 34 minutes. A long ball from goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann released Christian Conteh, who drove into the box before cutting the ball back to the penalty spot, where Marie swept home confidently to make it 1-0 - the score at the break.

Kaiserslautern made adjustments at half-time in an attempt to wrestle back control, but their fightback lasted barely five minutes before Braunschweig struck again. Another long ball caused chaos in the FCK backline, with Yardımcı outmuscling Luca Sirch before keeping his composure to finish past Julian Krahl and double the lead.

Despite chasing the game, Kaiserslautern rarely looked threatening, and it was Braunschweig who continued to carry the greater danger on the break, going close to a third on several occasions. Torsten Lieberknecht’s side simply couldn’t cope with Heiner Backhaus’ well-organised and disciplined game plan, which ultimately delivered a fully deserved 2-0 victory.

It’s a first win in five for Braunschweig - and a hugely important one - lifting them above Fürth into 15th place. For Kaiserslautern, it was a day to forget, never finding their rhythm and slipping down to seventh in the table.
