Six teams will fight to avoid relegation to 3. Liga on the last day of another captivating 2. Bundesliga campaign. The list includes pre-season promotion favorites, last season’s fifth-placed team, two newly-promoted clubs, and a side that previously survived via playoff.
FC Magdeburg (39 points, -5 GD, vs. Kaiserslautern (H))
Thanks to their back-to-back wins against Hertha and Holstein Kiel, Magdeburg are in a favourable position. A point at home against Kaiserslautern would be enough for one of the best 2. Bundesliga sides in 2026. They would still be safe with a defeat unless all Fürth, Bielefeld, and Düsseldorf win their games and Dresden avoid defeat to Kiel.
Dynamo Dresden (38 pts, 0 GD, vs. Holstein Kiel (H))
Thomas Stamm’s men could have been in a similar position had they avoided a 2-1 defeat in Braunschweig last week. However, their goal difference would still give them an extra advantage, with a draw enough as long as Bielefeld don’t beat Hertha by a four-goal margin. Similarly to Magdeburg, they are also safe from an automatic relegation.
Eintracht Braunschweig (37 pts, -17 GD, vs. Schalke (A))Schalke suffered a heavy loss to Nürnberg after their promotion to Bundesliga was confirmed, but they will hope to lift the trophy in high spirits in the wake of their last 2. Bundesliga game for at least another season. With Düsseldorf going head-to-head with Fürth, a draw might turn out to be a good result for Braunschweig. They need three points to be completely sure of avoiding the bottom three, however.
Greuther Fürth (34 pts, -22 GD) vs. Fortuna Düsseldorf (37 pts, -17 GD)
This will be the only head-to-head fixture between the relegation-threatened teams. There is a possibility for both to finish in the bottom three, which could be ruled out only with a Düsseldorf victory. If Bielefeld win their game, Fürth would need to do the same by three goals to finish in the playoff spot. A draw could favor Düsseldorf if Bielefeld don't pick up three points against Hertha.
Arminia Bielefeld (36 pts, -3 GD, vs. Hertha BSC (H))
A home win would be enough for Arminia Bielefeld to at least secure a place in the relegation/promotion playoff. They will get automatically relegated only if they lose on Sunday and Fürth beat Düsseldorf.
