Nürnberg salvaged a point in Kaiserslautern with an injury-time penalty-kick. Robin Knoche's goal helped Hannover to climb to fourth after their 3-0 win in Braunschweig. Meanwhile, Magdeburg scored and won for the first time since August.

Kaiserslautern 1-1 Nürnberg

Miroslav Klose’s return to Fritz-Walter-Stadium had a frantic start inside the first ten minutes. Both teams created clear-cut chances to open the scoring even before the penalty-kick for the visitors for Mika Haas’ foul on Tim Drexler.

However, Julian Justvan made a mess of it as he touched the ball on both feet and sent it wide. Kaiserslautern improved after their lucky break. And their effort was rewarded when Daniel Hanslik scored his first league goal of the season at the stroke of half-time.

Nürnberg should’ve levelled the score right away, but Rafael Lubach was unable to keep his shot on target from close range. Kaiserslautern limited their guests to off target shots in the second-half. However, Nürnberg won another penalty-kick in the 90th minute. Knoche converted the second one to extend their unbeaten run to three matches.

Lautern collected 16 points from their last seven games, but the late goal denied them from climbing to the top four in the standings. Torsten Lieberknecht’s side will face fellow 2. Bundesliga outfit Greuther Fürth in Pokal action on Wednesday. Nürnberg were knocked out of the cup in the first round by fourth-tier FV Illertissen.

Eintracht Braunschweig 0-3 Hannover 96

Erencan Yardımcı had a solid start to life in Braunschweig, but the striker lashed out in the 20th minute, which led the hosts to play the majority of the game with ten men. His opposite number, Benjamin Källman, had a positive impact on the visitors with two clinical finishes before the half-time break.

If it wasn’t for a narrow offside call, Källman would’ve completed his hat-trick two minutes after the restart. Substitute Daisuke Yokota sealed the win with his first goal for Hannover. Apart from substitute Levente Szabó missing an absolute sitter, Braunschweig created very little in the second-half.

Hannover climbed to fourth in the standings as they now have twice the points Braunschweig collected in the first ten matchdays. Neither team will be part of the midweek cup action after first round defeats.

FC Magdeburg 2-0 Preußen Münster

Barış Atik thought he ended Magdeburg's scoring drought with a superb strike early in the game, but the goal was chalked off for an offside. The hosts were unable to score for five games straight after their dramatic 5-4 defeat to Greuther Fürth.

It finally took a penalty-kick for Magdeburg to score after more than 500 minutes. Malik Batmaz committed a striker’s foul in a crowded box with only 15 minutes left on the clock. Heidenheim loanee Maximilian Breunig made no mistake from 12 yards to secure precious three points for the hosts.

Johannes Schenk denied Breunig from an open play in injury-time, but Magdeburg confirmed the win from the resulting corner-kick. Rayan Ghrieb, who was subbed on in the 90th minute, scored his second goal of the season with a brilliant finish.

With the result, Magdeburg recorded their first home win of the season. They remained at the bottom of the standings, but matched Dynamo Dresden and Bochum’s points tally. Preußen Münster are currently in 11th place with 11 points.
